Sines municipality has three light industry zones (ZIL) under its management. However, only ZIL 2 has space currently available for new companies. This zone is being expanded and will cover 14 hectares.

Fees and Sizes

Located at Chãos and Quinta da Lameira, the ZIL 2 light industry zone is situated just outside Sines. It has a total area of 592,750 square metres and the current (2011) rental fee is 1.99 Euros per square metre / year. Plots measuring 50, 100, 1,000, 4,000, 6,000 and 8,000 square metres are available for building facilities.  However, the total area of construction can be negotiated with the local authorities in accordance with the needs of particular business projects and their feasibility (buildings bigger than 20,000 square metres have to obtain prior building permission).

Sewage, Water, Electricity and Telecommunications

Sewage pipes are connected to municipal collection tanks linked to the wastewater treatment plant located at Ribeira dos Moinhos. The area is also equipped with a rainwater collection tank. To obtain water supplies and for information about water costs, contact the municipal services (Water and Sewage Services Department).
 
Electricity

To start receiving electricity, companies should contact the municipal council, which will start the process. Power is supplied by SLE-Electricidade do Sul, the local electricity distribution company. SLE will supply the necessary information on costs, capacity, and type of distribution in accordance with the industrial operations involved and their specific power requirements.
 
Fire Prevention

The whole ZIL 2 area is equipped with strategically placed water spouts for fire fighting. The first phase of the ZIL development has been integrated into a fire protection network.
 
Telecommunications

Portugal Telecom and Cabovisão, companies with installations in Sines, provide companies with all their telecommunication needs.
 
Reaching ZIL 2

Transport connections for moving goods from the ZIL 2 zone are:

- roads leading north:  the IC33/IP8 road connecting to the A2 motorway and National Highway No. 1
- roads leading south: the IC33/IP8 road connecting to the IC4 road and National Highway No.120 (via Cercal do Alentejo)
- as from 2004, a cargo port  (Terminal XXI) has been in operation, linking Sines with the rest of the world.

Fire and Health Services

A fire station operated by the Sines Association of Voluntary Fire Fighters is located in Avenida General Humberto Delgado, on the edge of the town, enabling rapid access to ZIL 2. The Sines Health Centre provides emergency outpatient services from 8am to 8pm.

The nearest hospital – the Alentejo Coast Regional Hospital (Hospital Regional do Litoral Alentejano), is in Santiago do Cacém, 15 kilometres from Sines on the IC33/IP8 road.
